Moving from 2.4.19 --> 2.4.20

Here is the scenario:

I have my 2.4.19 kernel optimized very good. I threw out all the stuff i don't need, and i've built in support for all my exotic hardware etc... I've put a lot of time in konfiguring it.

Now i want to move to 2.4.20 my Q is... Is it possible to keep the same config of the kernel so i can just compile 2.4.20 without configureing it again? :? It would save me a lot of time.

Copy your old .config (in, say, /usr/src/linux-2.4.19) to the new kernel directory (say, /usr/src/linux or /usr/src/linux-2.4.20). Do a `make oldconfig`. It'll ask you questions only about new features in the kernel, and will keep other values the same.

okay, great., now that i have working 2.4.20 kernel, i'm wondering if it's safe to unmerge linux-headers-2.4.19 ? i see there is no linux-headers for 2.4.20. Why is that? Why are those headers there?

thanx

No, you ought to keep them. I don't know why, either, but apparently they're there for a reason. I'm running 2.4.21 and I still have the 2.4.19 ones installed.
