racer - custom cars & tracks work in menu but not in gam

I've emerge'd racer-bin and it runs ok

I noticed there was one car and one track so I downloaded a car and a track from http://www.racer-xtreme.com . I unziped the files. When I run racer it loads ok and I can select the car and the track in the menu but when I click race it starts on the defualt track with the default car ?!?!

it's probably something simple.
This game loos soooooooo good esp considering it is free

I can seem to get the extra track and car working by editing the ini file and setting them as the defualt car and track but surely you should be abe to pick what car you want ???

I guess I could download it from the racer website and install it using the tgz files

I think I had the same issue.

Running it form a terminal will probably give you more information about what's going wrong.

I think wrong permissions were the cause of my cars and tracks not loading.

Although I now have another issue : some tracks and cars have no textures on them. Probably just have to put the right texture in the right folder.

The game really kicks ass, a bit of a shame that cars start pinballing sometimes

I had the same problem; it seemed like racer.ini had to be writable for group "games".

No problem here. Just be sure unzipped car/traks are owned by games:games

I ended up giving up on it

was a bit boring hitting walls and flying around the map
