[Compiz-Fusion] Right-Click freezes all windows [Solved]

  • Quote

Post by SpikeXtrem » Fri Sep 14, 2007 12:30 pm

Hi all,

I installed Compiz-Fusion 0.5.2 with the xeffects overlay. Now I can start compiz-fusion and everything is fine. But whenever I right-click anywhere on the screen all my windows freezes. Which means that the windows can't be selected or unselected, the menus do not respond to mouse clicks and the keyboard shortcuts do not work.

The xorg-server (1.3.0) is not crashed because the mouse cursor is still moving properly when I move the mouse. It's only the interactivity with the objects on screen seems disabled...

Anyone has seen this problem?

Compiz-0.5.2 is in portage. Since the merge with beryl I assume these are the same, except xeffects might be more cutting-edge and have different addition/plugins.
Anyway the regular portage version works fine. However I could not emerge the extras (and64). But compiz and compiz-settings works fine.

I would try the regular version of portage. And try to start it from terminal, see if you can get error message there or in your /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Did you check that you have the necessary extension in your driver settings in xorg.conf ?

Same problem here.
Solution:
The problem should be that u didn't use the kdelibs from xeffects' overlays.
If you have installed kdelibs from portage (the kdelibs-3.5.7-r3 or minor) downgrade to kdelibs-3.5.7-r2 from xeffects overlays.
This resolved my problem.
Until an overlay for the -r3 release is not ready, you could mask kdelibs=kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.7-r3:

Code: Select all

echo "=kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.7-r3" >> /etc/portage/package.mask
Sorry 4 my english

Hi again,

I read some forums here and it seems that I missed an important instruction in the compiz-fusion installation. I added the xcb use flag to my make.conf and reemerged my world. Now everything is working properly.

I saw it's written in the how-to, I just missed it.

Thanks a lot, I hope this will help someone with the same problem someday :)
