How do I modify the clearlooks theme to get back the soft borders that were in 2.16? The new ones are, well, b**t ugly.

It appears that only mozilla-firefox-bin and openoffice-bin suffered this fate. Still looking for the fix.

firefox-bin looks like crap under Gnome 2.18

Post by trolley » Sun Aug 12, 2007 12:44 am

I just finished upgrading to Gnome 2.18 last night and the first thing I noticed is that firefox-bin, which used to look exactly the same as Firefox compiled from source, looks like crap. The menu bars are darker gray than they used to be, and the lines separating them are thick. What could have caused this? Could it be that whatever theme it uses has changed format when upgrading to a new gtk+? Any way to fix it? If it would be helpful I can post comparative screenshots.

I noticed this in my .xsession-errors:

Code: Select all

/usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:63: error: unexpected identifier `style', expected character `}'

Here's a temporary fix. Edit /usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc and comment out lines 63, 64, and 139 ("style" and "radius"). That fixed up Firefox and OOo for me.

Using Glossy I also had to comment out the "style" line in /usr/share/themes/Glossy/gtk-2.0/gtkrc.

Thanks. This was enough of a fix for mozilla-firefox-bin. I'll reinstall openoffice-bin and have a look at it too. I had installed openoffice. It takes longer to compile than emerge -e system!

I just upgraded a few packages and came across this issue. I've fixed it using the hackaround trolley described.

But I'm curious, is it a bug with gtk-engines?

I have no idea...not many people seem to have shown interest in this so I don't know how many it actually affects. If it's a lot then a bug should likely be logged.
