Installation problems

  • Quote

Post by The Hog » Wed Sep 05, 2007 4:57 pm

I use livecd-i686 2007.0
After loading default kernel everything goes normal, but soon after the question about keymaps i have:

Code: Select all

cp: etc: No such file or directory
cp: home: No such file or directory
// and so on
Bad init '/sbin/init'
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init
caps lock and scroll lock start blinking, system hangs.
Can somebody help me?

How much RAM does the machine you are using the LiveCD on have? It is possible that there is not enough memory to unpack the image...

Also did you check the downloaded .iso against the MD5 checksum? It is possible that you have a corrupt image.

also you must use the slowest possible writing speed to write the iso image to disk for best results.
reach out a little bit more to catch it (DON'T BELIEVE the advocate part under my user name)

1. I have 512 mb RAM & think it's enough
2. md5 sum is ok
3. thanks, maybe my cd is corrupt, i'll try again with other cd. But I think that in case of broken disk output should be much more verbose

It could also be that your RAM is bad. Have you run memtest86 from the prompt? I would try that and let it run for a while.

Well I have exactly the same problem, it seems to stem from attempting to mount squashfs, everything falls apart after that fails. I have the same thing on both the minimal and LiveCD versions of 2007.0, interestingly the AMD64 release fails in a different way (boots up to a point then insists it can't find a boot device, doesn't like my DVD drive I suspect) leaving me with no way to install Gentoo 2007.0. Sigh back to Ubuntu I guess...

My system AMD64 X2, 2Gb RAM, SATA HDD, Panasonic DVD Writer, ASUS Nforce4 mobo, PCI-e ATI vidcard
By Hook or by Crook....We Will!
