It seems now all my 3D application result in a blackscreen. That includes beryl and stellarium. The mouse cursor still wonders about and I can quit Stellarium by keyboard (Ctrl-Q). It seems like it's some 3D issue, I am not sure what...

Not much in xorg.0.log:

Code: Select all

(II) RADEON(0): Damage tracking initialized for page flipping
I am not sure if it's related at all...

As of 5th july 2007 there doesn't exist overlay r300-driver anymore. Instead it use overlays: layman -a x11 nouveau
is this true?

r300-driver still exists, and is used. Read the last comment on the talk page. Last line... "it works now". I think the site may have been down at that time.

I'm getting this from git xorg-server:

mouse driver needs an update

Looks like the latest git xorg-server wants an xf86-input-mouse driver with the version 2 ABI. Primozic, could you please add a git ebuild for it to your overlay, if it's not too much trouble?

Same problem here, xf86-input-mouse won't build (version 1.2.2, in portage) with the latest Xorg-server from git installed. If primozic could add the ebuild to his overlay, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Since I can't even start X without xf86-input-mouse, how can I install xf86-input-mouse manually?

Edit: I can't seem to install xf86-video-ati from the overlay either. Tried updating libpixman (also from the overlay).

OK, since I need my mouse now, and probably some other people are in the same situation, here's an ebuild that works for me. I took the 1.2.2 ebuild from portage and edited it using Primozic's keyboard ebuild, from his overlay, as a template. I make no guarantees, and it should be checked by someone with skills, but my mouse moves now.

Yes! Success!

The problem with libpixman solved itself when I removed it and then ran revdep-rebuild :) And Slippery Jim's ebuild worked flawlessly, so I have now the newest Xorg and ati drivers!

Thanks for the help :)

Edit: Please do tell when xf86-input-mouse has been added to the overlay so I can update it when the time comes.

I've noticed a bug I haven't had before though. I can't switch between terminals anymore, it freezes the picture. If I'm in X and press Ctrl+Alt+F1 the picture gets some random artifacts on the top and freeze.

Anyone else has this?

Edit: The terminal switching freezing disappeared on its own when I updated the kernel. So now everything is like it should be :)

i get this error when i try to compile xorg-server-1.3.99.999

Code: Select all

checking for PCIACCESS... configure: error: Package requirements (pciaccess >= 0.8.0) were not met:

No package 'pciaccess' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables PCIACCESS_CFLAGS
and PCIACCESS_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Works fine for me. Try remerging libdrm first. the xf86-video-ati ebuild depends on it, and they might be out of sync. If that fails, do what I do every time I update:

(in order)
libdrm
x11-drm
xorg-server
xf86-video-ati
mesa
mesa-progs

EDIT: OK, I also get the PCIACCESS error. That's new, since the last time I built xorg-server. Looks like we need another ebuild for the overlay...

Where does that libpciaccess ebuild come from? As far as I can see it is neither in portage nor in r300-overlay.

------ Comment #1 From Michel Dänzer 2007-08-27 06:56:56 PST [reply] -------

The driver needs to be adapated to the pci-rework changes merged to the xserver
master branch recently. Meanwhile, you may want to try the xserver
server-1.4-branch.
i guess somebody should release a cvs of the 1.4 branch ...

yeah, I can't get past that pciVideoPtr error either. I'm typing this on my laptop instead of my main system because of this. I guess I should've built some binary packages before installing to the live system. It looks like we'll have to wait for someone to check something into the repository.

Code: Select all

emerge =xorg-server-1.3.0.0 xf86-video-ati
