If anyone having trouble with bcop versions, try to:

# emerge --unmerge bcop
# emerge compiz-bcop

Worked for me

Quick question.

I haven't got compiz-fusion to work. I used beryl previously and it worked perfect, I did a large system and world update and beryl broke.
When I found out the beryl project is not longer maintained, I had a go with compiz-fusion instead. I've just got the decorations to work (sort of).

I can use transparency and wobbly windows, but after a few minutes X freezes and I need to kill X. During the time it actually semi-works, I cannot create new windows or focus on other open windows.

I've tried both 0.5.2 and 9999, no difference, none of them works. Everything compiles like it should, although this cought my eyes:

Code: Select all

# emerge -av compiz-fusion fusion-icon

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N    ] x11-wm/compiz-0.5.2  USE="gnome gtk -dbus -fuse -kde -svg" 0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-libs/compiz-bcop-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-apps/ccsm-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-plugins/compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-libs/libcompizconfig-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-apps/fusion-icon-9999  USE="gtk -qt3 -qt4" 0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-libs/compizconfig-backend-gconf-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-plugins/compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-wm/emerald-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-themes/emerald-themes-0.5.2  0 kB [1]
[ebuild  N    ] x11-wm/compiz-fusion-0.5.2  USE="gnome -kde" 0 kB [1]
Shouldn't compiz be compiled with dbus and svg? What are your packages compiled with? Specifically cairo, libX11 and mesa. All with xcb? Do you have dbus added as a USE flag in make.conf?

Please confirm that for me. Thank you very much.

(I'm using gnome-2.18.2-r1 and xorg-server xorg-server-1.2.0-r3 with a amd64)

You could try compiling them with dbus and svg and see what happens....

Tried that, also tried beryl and it's the same problem there. Something has happend, but I don't know what. It's kind of weird that updating some packages will give this effect. Beryl/Compiz-Fusion runs for a while, not being able to click at the background or any icon, and then completely freeze X. Also, when it kind-of works, everything is painfully slow, mouse lag and slow echos from already open terminals.

Anyone seen this? Will a (painful) emerge -e system/world help?

if you are using ATI's opengl libraries why are you forcing xorg-x11's?

Compiz fusion seems to work perfectly here, just a minor problem:
I frequently switch back and for between Linux console and X, but
always when switching back to X I get a black screen and need to
restart X. Is this a known problem and if so, is there a solution?

Some details:
CPU AMD Sempron 3000+
VIDEO GeForce4 Ti 4600
kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r5
nvidia-drivers 1.0.9631-r1 (pretty outdated, the last version that works with my card though)

Thx in advance for any hint...

I think it is, search through http://forum.compiz-fusion.org see if you get an answer there but I've heard of your issue before just can't put my finger on a solution.

I found this: search for ('console switch black')

Code: Select all

I have found a partial workaround, as follows:

Disable 'detect refresh rate', and disable 'sync to vblank'

This allows beryl to return from the console, but compiz at the moment segfaults.

I assume the segfault can be fixed, though.
I personally disable both of these *anyway* even though I don't have this issue.

compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0
maybe?

Code: Select all

Got it working. After more research, I found out I didn't compile AGPGART or my AGP chipset drivers or the DRM module.
are you properly loading the "dri" xorg module?

Thanks for your hints! :-)
So looks like an nividia problem, still unsolved (as far as I got it).
Unfortunately, even when future drivers will fix it, I can't use it.
I'm not going to buy a new card anytime soon... :-/

prolific, how do you start up xgl ?

copy these lines into /usr/bin/startxgl

Code: Select all

userclientrc=$HOME/.xinitrc
## userclientrc=$HOME/.xglinitrc

 ## xinit $clientargs -- $serverargs -deferglyphs 16 &
 # ATI
 xinit $clientargs -- /usr/bin/Xgl :1 $serverargs -ac -accel xv -accel glx:pbuffer -deferglyphs 16 -xorgAc dpms v -screen 1280x1024 &
 # NVIDIA
# xinit $clientargs -- /usr/bin/Xgl :1 $serverargs -ac -accel #xv -accel glx:fbo -deferglyphs 16 &

###!/bin/sh
#cmd=0
#if [ -z "$1" ]; then
#  cmd=1
#else
#  if [ "$1" = "e16" ]; then
#    cmd=0
#  elif [ "$1" = "fluxbox" ]; then

#  else
#    cmd=1
#  fi
#fi
#
#if [ "$cmd" = "1" ]; then
#  emerald --replace & beryl --indirect-rendering --replace #dbus settings

then

Code: Select all

chmod +x /usr/bin/startxgl
after that execute it

Behaviour trouble with xfce4-panel

  • Quote

Post by Dakeyras » Fri Aug 31, 2007 6:09 am

Hello,

I'm testing Compiz Fusion alongside XFCE, and it's running quite well despite a few quirks here and there.

One of them is with the panel (xfce4-panel): if I make it automatically hiding, moving my mouse pointer all the way down the screen doesn't make it reappear. The panel is three pixels high when hidden, and if I want to show it, I have to put my pointer on the *third* row of pixel from the bottom. That's quite impractical.

I know it didn't behave that way at first, I believe it started doing it after I configured some of the Compiz plugins in ccsm (you *know* you have to try them all when first running Compiz ;) ). Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint the culprit. If anyone has ever experienced this, and knows how to solve the problem, I would be greatly thankful.

kernelOfTruth, when i startxgl with that script i get a grey screen and nothing loads up. the mouse cursor is the "watch" icon, which would indicate that something is loading up but nothing happens.

when i exit out to the terminal with ctrl+alt+del, i can see a message on the console saying
(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable

i have a ati radeon9800 pro and am using the binary ati drivers ..

wow dual monitor hexagonal

  • Quote

Post by F1r31c3r » Mon Sep 03, 2007 11:14 am

hey peeps thanks for all the info in these posts.

i got my xgl working im stuck in 1024x768 res and still trying to figure out how to get back into 1440x900 on both my monitors but hey i got a hexagon instead of a cube now. ive set manually all the refresh and modelines but still 1024x768x2 givin me 2048x768. also note i think this works due to my hardware being conected to my graphics card with DVI cables so i dont use the analog signals. i dont think crt and tmds can be paired in big desktop mode with the fglrx driver.

ill make a howto as soon as i can.

Im using the fglrx driver aswell in 24bit depth mode and what i noticed was the aticonfig when it nuked my config file keeps removing the Screen 0 from the device 0 section so i manually replaced it and well then decided to delete the BusID PCI:1:0:0

my xgl loaded both monitors with a cube well hexagon still 4 desktops though. ill post all my configs and list all the bugs i found shortly.

but so you all know there is a hexagon in the compiz when run in dual monitor mode and half the probs of dual monitor are not to do with compiz but Xgl and the fglrx driver. get them 2 right and compiz runs sweet.

I have posted a new thread listing my work and asking for some expertise in getting this hexagon working properly. here is the thread link

It's not quite a solution, but I recommend unmasking fusion-icon and setting KDEWM to "fusion-icon" :)

Hi all,

I installed Compiz-Fusion 0.5.2 with the xeffects overlay. Now I can start compiz-fusion and everything is fine. But whenever I right-click anywhere on the screen all my windows freezes. Which means that the windows can't be selected or unselected, the menus do not respond to mouse clicks and the keyboard shortcuts do not work. The xorg-server (1.3.0) is not crashed because the mouse curser is still moving properly when I move the mouse. It's only the interactivity with the objects on screen seems disabled...

Anyone has seen this problem?

Did anybody make it work with xorg-server-1.4? I've lost decorations, gtk-window-decorator segfaults and emerald does nothing. Error messages are sketchy:

Code: Select all

$ emerald --replace

(emerald:20394): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

$ gtk-window-decorator --replace

(gtk-window-decorator:20439): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_cairo_create: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed
Plus, avant-window-navigator goes over a black strip. Composite is working, but apparently compiz/awb can't access it. I'm one milimeter short of reinstalling gentoo.

I recently updated my compiz fusion at the last cvs version.

Now, when i click on an open window with a right mouse button, the window is select but it doesn't come on top.
The only way it's to click on the title... in this way all seems normal.

Any suggestions?
