KDE fails to start after emerge -e world

  • Quote

Post by RageOfOrder » Sun Aug 26, 2007 3:30 pm

I started an emerge -eav world on tuesday night. Over 1000 packages updated, and revdep rebuild rebuilt another 40 (including kdelibs)
So I rebooted and besides some warnings, everything is good.
I even ran X and fluxbox started up just fine.

However, I tried KDE and it crashes. I see my cursor, then back to the terminal.
I've tried google for a solution, but nothing more than "Remove and re-install KDE" seems to be suggested. That would take too much time on Gentoo, especially if there's an alternative.

Similar to the other thread, I installed Compiz-Fusion as well, but the 0.5.2 stable version and made no changes to any kde config files.
plus kde is set to load kwin by default anyways.

So yea.

waiting for X server to shut down

So it must be something to do with ksmserver (which I already re-merged....) or kwrapper
...And then stuff happened.

That's not unusual if you're doing an --emptytree emerge. It rebuilds everything in world and all dependencies of the packages in world.

Last time I did an update was when GCC 4.1 was released. School got me busy, I neglected my gentoo box :)

Anyway, I'm unmerging all kde packages, and I'll try re-merging the full monolithic kde package this time.

here's my emerge --info

Oh goddamnit.

Full removal and re-install of KDE (11 hours of compilation) and I still have the same damn error.

Any suggestions?
Fluxbox works fine, but I can't get KDE to start.

I guess I'll try removing compiz-fusion....

Yeah remove beryl and maybe you will be back on track... Also, maybe you could restart the config from kde.
