[SOLVED] openoffice 2.2 - no spelling, no auto-complete

I upgraded to openoffice 2.2. Now I can't get spell checking working, either explicit or the red underline thingy. I found a blog post that said that in 2.2 you have to set the language by running File->Wizards->Install New Dictionaries but when I run that, nothing happens. It just sits there and stares at me.

Also, my all time favorite feature of auto-complete, where it looks for other words you typed and auto-comletes as you type, is no longer working. I have it enabled under Tools->Auto Correct->Word Completion but it just doens't work anymore.

Has anyone seen these things or know what the poop is going on? Thanks

I had to do what was in this openoffice forum thread to install the English libraries. and now spellchecking and autocomplete works. Seems like a bug in the ebuild to me.

Both the source and the -bin packages have flags that look like this:

Code: Select all

[ebuild N ] app-office/openoffice-2.0.4 USE="eds gnome gtk kde ldap pam -binfilter -branding -cairo -cups -dbus -debug -firefox -gstreamer -java -odk -sound -webdav" LINGUAS="-af -ar -be_BY -bg -bn -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en -en_GB -en_US -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -fr -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja -km -ko -lt -lv -mk -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -pa_IN -pl -pt -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -th -tn -tr -ts -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 193,972 kB

Code: Select all

[ebuild R ] app-office/openoffice-bin-2.1.0 USE="gnome kde* -java" LINGUAS="-af -as_IN -be_BY -bg -bs -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en -en_GB -en_ZA -es -et -fa -fi -fr -gu_IN -he -hi_IN -hr -hu -it -ja -km -ko -lt -mk -ml_IN -mr_IN -nb -nl -nn -nr -ns -or_IN -pa_IN -pl -pt_BR -ru -rw -sh_YU -sk -sl -sr_CS -st -sv -sw_TZ -ta_IN -te_IN -tg -th -ti_ER -tn -tr -ts -ur_IN -ve -vi -xh -zh_CN -zh_TW -zu" 0 kB
I haven't dug through the ebuild to verify this, but I would have to assume the proper LINGUAS flag in your make.conf will grab the proper language module. As you can see, I haven't set it either.

This may be true, but that fact that if no LINGUAS is set it doesn't use the default locale... mmyeah, that sounds like a bug.

Interesting, because I have the same problem, but using the link above did nothing.

It kept saying I was not connected to the internet (which, obviously, I was). Then I decided to download the package separately, and do an "offline" installation. It looked like it worked, but nothing changed in my oo...
To look without without looking within is like looking without without looking at all.

I was able to get to the "wizard" by following the link above, downloading the document, and running it, and I got spellcheck working.

I have the proper linguas (en, en_us) set, and the dictionaries weren't included on installation when compiling from source (as opposed to using openoffice-bin)

Not a difficult fix, but definitely an unneeded annoyance.
