I don't think that would happen. According to lynx, the error message page correctly returns a "503 Service Unavailable" status code. If Google's cacheing-spiders behave correctly, they'll see the 503 and know it's a temporary fault, and thus leave the cached copy as it is.BigBrain wrote:Enough until the google cache will contain the error message![]()

That doesn't fit. It is only mentioning the official Gentoo servers. As I have learnt (see above) Gentoo Linux Wiki is completely independent from official Gentoo resources.termite wrote:http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/08/17 ... le_server/
Maybe it's affected by the same bug, too. Seems like it's a more general php (or whatever script language they're using) bug...netboy1977 wrote: That doesn't fit. searching site:forums.gentoo.org on google is much better than using the in-forum search. The wiki is still useful beyond that; although there are some nice howtos on the forums, they're not all in one place, and are reliant on whoever posted them to update them.beso_1717 wrote:when the forums will have a lightly better engine (most of the time i have to search for at least 20-30min before i can find something useful) the need for a wiki won't be there anymore.
No, packages.g.o was taken down due to a problem in the way the application was coded (see the bugreport for details). The problem only affects packages.g.o (the other sites were taken down only because they were hosted on the same server).BigBrain wrote:Maybe it's affected by the same bug, too. Same IP = (likely) on the same server = what he saidnetboy1977 wrote:Actually gentoo-wiki.com and gentoo-portage.com both belong to the server with IP 72.10.70.138. That should explain, finally.F16PilotJumper wrote:gentoo-wiki is probably down because it shares the same sever as gentoo-portage.com, which was getting hammered after packages.gentoo.org went down.

It is if you'd like corroboration and empathy, not if you want action. The wiki is unofficial and separate from gentoo.org and the Gentoo Foundation.grooveman wrote:The gentoo wiki has been down all day... Not sure if this is the place to post...
