Interesting, strigi-9999 compiled for me yesterday (fresh install). Kde 4 - is awesome, still lots more work to be done though :D

I'm getting a failed kdenetwork configure, it says something about cmake not being able to find bytestreambase.cpp for papillion (kopete) and a little earlier it says something about reenabling papillion when it compiles (because it's broken). Strange thing is that it doesn't have a useflag for either kopete or papillion so I'm wondering why this apparently worked for a lot of people and not for me.
Changed something now so it's gone from my scrollback buffer, if it happens again I'll see if I can update some of my tools and then I'll post it here when the error occurs again. Google didn't give me any results on this, though.

edit:
And a few retries later:

It worked here :)

With strigi 0.5.4, as explained a couple of posts before :)

OK I had some sleep, had a quick look over the ebuild and discovered that msn wasn't in IUSE "because it's broken", this also causes the msn useflag to not be visible in emerge -av output. It is used later on, though, to configure the package.

Code: Select all

USE="-msn" emerge -1av =kdenetwork-3.92.0
'fixed' this for me. Seems to work OK, configure didn't fail and it's compiling now.

Cool :)

Here, I finally decide to unmerge the KDE4 Beta1 ;) I looked at the applications I wanted to look, but it's not enough "usable" to keep it as a primary desktop for now :) Hehe.

Hi all,

am I doing something wrong?

I merged svn kde, from here

Code: Select all

repository: svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/KDE/kdebase
but kicker seems to be not working well. Crashing as soon as I start to add any additional bars, and MAINLY does not have any dockable space for docs application. KOnqueror does not support cookies and some of functionalities in control centre seems to be empty. Would someone know what could be the problem? Thanks!

Here is my emerge info:

Code: Select all

emerge --info

Similar things here with svn.
I do not even have a clock in kicker and i also cannot load it. It says that it could not be loaded and I should check my installation.
Ebuilds are version 9999.4.

Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I haven't seen it anywhere and Google isn't showing anything. I'm trying to start an app on the command line (and have been successful in the past). I have a separate user account for this purpose, with the custom .bashrc and all that jazz, but I can't figure this out:

Code: Select all

kde-devel@blackbird ~ $ kmahjongg
kmahjongg: [kmahjongg (1884) in "virtual bool KIconCache::loadCustomIndexHeader(
QDataStream&)" at /var/tmp/portage/kde-base/kdelibs-9999.4/work/kdelibs-9999.4/k
deui/icons/kiconcache.cpp:95] [ virtual bool KIconCache::loadCustomIndexHeader(Q
DataStream&) ] Empty themes list
kmahjongg: [kmahjongg (1884) in "bool KIconLoader::initIconThemes()" at /var/tmp

Well it seems there was some work done, as I can compile all packages. BUT. What to do if kde svn fails to start due to d-bus, saing could not start d-bus, pelase check your installations. I found out, that in kde 3.5 dbus is normally running, but as soon as I close this session it it stoped and can't be fire-up.

Any ideas?

I tried again. I rebuilt taglib, but that did not really help. Then I tried to emerge kdemultimedia with fewer useflags turned on. It turned out that compiling without debug works fine for me, but with USE=debug" compiling kdemultimedia fails.

Do you have dbus and hald in the default run-level? Look at the output of rc-update show. If not, add them with rc-update add dbus default and rc-update add hald default

Thanks for answer, USE="X" emerge dbus was the solution. :D

I'm trying to build up kde4 using svn ebuilds, but it stops at kdenetwork (that is the last package :@)

This is the output:

The answer to my own question

Post by Shamus397 » Fri Aug 17, 2007 7:13 pm

Just for future reference. What I did was

Code: Select all

unset XDG_DATA_DIRS
kbuildsycoca4
I then logged out of my kde-devel user's account, rebuilt the whole KDE4 thing from scratch, then logged back in. Logging out and logging back in without rebuilding didn't work, BTW.

Now it doesn't complain about missing styles anymore. Huzzah! :)

strigi pulls in java?

Post by dolbyn » Sat Aug 18, 2007 11:37 am

Why? Is this actually needed?

Am trying to see if its possoble to run KDE4 inside an qemu-system-qemu, strigi seems to be pulling in virtual/java-jdk

Firstly Am having problems finding a jdk that runs inside qemu and secondly if i merge strigi without dependancies ( using sqlite3 as the backend ) then it happily builds without jave being installed. I suspect its going to be another 24-036 hours before the rest of kde finished building ( assuming it does ) so maybe in a day or two i will find a runtime dependancy but i dont see why striggi would have a fixed dependancy on a java jdk?

Does any of that make sense?

No kdebase seems to be missing a dependience:

confirmed: perhaps it is use flag dependent. my flags;

USE="cups java opengl pam ssl usb -bluetooth -bzip2 -debug -ieee1394 -lm_sensors -logitech-mouse -network_manager -newxkb -openexr -pie -samba -test -xcb -xcomposite -xine -xinerama -xscreensaver"

I don't think is an use flag related problem...

I read about the introduction of this package on the kde-core-devel newsletter, and probably next week it will change name because another package has the same name (dev-libs/blitz), the candidate new name is qimageblitz.

My use flags for kdebase are:

Code: Select all

bluetooth bzip2 cups ieee1394 java lm_sensors network_manager opengl pam samba ssl usb xcomposite xine xinerama -debug -logitech-mouse -newxkb -openexr -pie -test -xcb -xscreensaver

I skip it and continue using kdeadmin compiled 2 weeks ago, hoping it works with new kdelibs and kdebase.
I also hope that kdenetwork and kdedevplatform compiles right this time...

but when i tru to emerge kde-base/kde-9999.4

i got (at the end):

[blocks B ] kde-base/kde (is blocking kde-base/kde-meta-3.5.7)

yes, i have kde 3.5.7...

this is because there is no meta with slot? if this is the case, which are the packages that give a nice KDE4 preview?

Yes, kde 4 and kde 3.5.7 conflicts in some packages...
In my system, there was also kopete-3.5.7 conflicting with kdenetwork-4.

To install both kdes I unmerged 2 packages: kde-meta and kopete.
But don't start emerge --depclean, otherwise all kde 3.5.7 will be unmerged.

Someone can compile it or maybe there is a bug on the ebuild?
