how to access my pc remotely?

Hi
I need to access my pc remotely as i will be on holidays soon and i want to check if my server is running and fix it if sthng goes wrong.So i need to use ssh or telnet,ftp or remote desktop .i own a speedtouch 585v6 adsl modem/router and i opened ports 21 for ftp ,23 for telnet but i cannot access the pc remotely or even local.eg if i run telnet locally on machine it does not open.i restarted router but same problem.do i need to configure some files or services manually in order to access my pc remotely?

No one uses telnet any more. Fire up OpenSSH with

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/sshd start

and then use the ssh command to connect to the daemon
listening on port 22. You can even do X forwarding with Openssh
so there's that too
