System Freezes - K3b Clone Copy

When I try to perform a Clone Copy with my DVD Burner the system freezes. This doesn't happen with the other drive which is a DVD-ROM. Does anyone have any ideas? Please let me know what information you need from me... Using K3b 1.0.3.

well, i guess, when you do a clone copy from your dvd-rom, you probably do a direct copy, which means, you (or k3b) don't need to create an image.

what is the actual output of k3b? or does it freeze instantly?

i just know, that if /tmp is full, the system reacts really strange, so make sure, you have enough disk space, in case you use this place for the temporary images.

Shazam, in both cases when I do a clone copy I create an image in /tmp. And /tmp does have enough space (part of the root partition).

K3b instantly freezes the system (which requires a hard reboot) so I do not get a chance to debug or look at error messages.

mm, okay, well i'm no expert, but maybe we can encircle the problem a bit.

1 ) can you copy usual cds/dvds (as data) off the burner? like the cd/dvd you want to copy with the clone function?

2) does it instantly crash, or somewhere during the image creation process? if so, maybe start running it, and then stop it, before it can crash.
then take a look at the logs, (dmesg, /var/log/everything/current, etc) if something odd comes up.

3) run k3b from console, maybe u are able to see some messages while it is working. (just 'learned' from another problem ;-) )
