you'll have to forgive my ignorace, but I don't see an x86_64 image, only an x86 (and all the other supported arch's)

about the processor itself i don't know but there is already support, even if experimental, for the 4965AGN adaptor with the iwlwifi project

it can be installed manually by following http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Toshiba ... e_P200-141 instructions
or
1. adding the sunrise overlay
2. copying the iwlwifi and iwlwifi-ucode ebuilds to a local overlay
3. changing all the occurrences of 3945 to 4965 in the iwlwifi and iwlwifi-ucode ebuilds
4. bump iwlwifi version to iwlwifi-0.0.25-r1
5. bump iwlwifi-ucode version to 4.44.14

emerge iwlwifi and recompile the kernel

the module's name is iwl4965 and it's working great with Networkmanager, just dropping the connection every once in a while

(if you don't want the sunrise overlay then the mac80211 must also be copied to the local overlay before removing it)

Did you need to install any other programs/make changes to any config files to get the device to show up? I followed the instructions on the intellinuxwireless.org website and everything seems to load fine, but I don't have anything showing up in either networkmanager or iwconfig.

dmesg

Code: Select all

iwl4965: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN driver for Linux, 0.0.32d
iwl4965: Copyright(c) 2003-2007 Intel Corporation
lsmod

Code: Select all

Module Size Used by
iwl4965 178788 0
mac80211 105860 1 iwl4965
cfg80211 4616 1 mac80211
Yet, iwconfig

Code: Select all

eth0 no wireless extensions.

lo no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sure, I built the mac80211 with the intellinux mac80211 howto instructions. Then I built iwlwifi with their instructions here.

Is your firmware in /lib/firmware/ ? I've got /lib/firmware/iwlwifi04965.ucode

Only issue I'm having with the santa rosa platform is the dvdrom, seems as it is not recognized at all. I had to compile the kernel without the generic ide driver, else it would be used instead of intels... could this be the issue ?

I have kernel panics on 2.6.22-gentoo-r2 with these drivers. Followed the instructions, and I get the same ouput as shil, but within a few minutes I get a kernel panic. :( So I'm just using a USB wireless at the moment.

I have just brought a ROCK X770 which has a Santa-Rosa chip. I have installed X86 which appears to be fine, but before getting to carried away is it worth putting X86_64 on it instead ?

Unless you have a need for 64bit don't use it. Do you have > 3GB of RAM? Are you using applications that need 64bits? While almost everything works, there are still several things that do not work in 64bit. finally, if you have x86 installed already, why reinstall for something you probably don't need? (Disclaimer, if you knew you needed 64 bits for ______, then that's different)

By the way, did you get the Wireless working?

Have stuck with X86. In the process of rebuilding my notebook again, but with respect to the WiFi issue I see another kernel module for RFKILL. This ties in with the error I was getting before, so have enabled that and will give it another go when I get home later.
