[SOLVED] mouse pointer doens't change shape with xinerama

I'm using two monitors with my T43p Thinkpad. I'm using ati-drivers-8.30.3-r1. One monitor, the main one, is cloning the internal screen, the other is to the left of that and xinerama makes it one big desktop. However, whenever my mouse is on the non-main screen, the mouse pointer stays as whatever shape it was when it crosses the monitor divide.

e.g. If I drag a window the mouse turns into a little hand to show I'm dragging. If I drag the window over the monitor divide then while the mouse is on that second monitor, it is always a hand. It doesn't turn into the finger over browser links or a normal arrow by default. Nothing. If it was an arrow to begin with that it stays that way.

Has anyone ever heard of this and know what to do? Thanks.

John

I also have the same problem with a 3 monitor setup. One ATI dual head card (X800 XT) and an nvidia nvs400. The problem only occurs when crossing onto the secondary ATI interface from the primary ATI. It's fine when moving onto the nvidia one from the primary ATI.

I noted someone else mentioned it at the end of this thread here:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-47 ... inter.html

My ATI drivers are 8.32.5.

any suggestions?

Cheers,

john

Given your description I would suggest buying more nvidia products ;-)
I have ATI in my work laptop but would never buy an ATI card for personal use for exactly this type of reason.

I've had nothing but good experiences with nvidia and nothing but crap from ati. meh

Just installed the latest ati drivers (as well as a new kernel and a load of other stuff) and this is now fixed, yay! :-)
