[solved] hiding dotfiles in GTK file browser

  • Quote

Post by no_hope » Tue Jul 10, 2007 3:55 pm

Welcome to my thread!

Is it possible to configure the GTK file browser to hide dot files? For example, if I try to open a file in firefox or gimp the file browser displays all the dot-files. I use KDE for my desktop environment.

Thanks.

Firefox can be made to comply in two ways. First way: open about:config and go to the ui.allow_platform_file_picker to false. This switches to a different dialog which has the option to show/not show hidden files and directories as a checkbox. I only mention it because I like that dialog a lot more. The second way: you can actually just right-click in the pane with the directory listing and toggle hidden files on a popup menu. Works for Gimp, Firefox using the GTK file picker, et cetera.

Is it possible to set some default for this? Azureus keeps showing dot files every time and every time I have to hide them. (It's a mess, most people have dozens or even hundreds of dot files in the home directory.)

Yeah that would be a nice feature.

Code: Select all

mario@server ~/.config/gtk-2.0 $ cat gtkfilechooser
<gtkfilechooser>
  <location mode="filename-entry"/>
  <show_hidden value="false"/>
  <expand_folders value="false"/>
</gtkfilechooser>
