2.6.21 No more Multi Card Reader Support

I had crashed my system as I uninstalled something I shouldn't of. Built my system from the ground up using the latest kernel. This 2.6.21-gentoo-r3 at the time of writing this. I ticked all the SCSI boxes that would normally make it work. It loads it up (seen in dmesg) but that's it. When put a card in nothing happens. I am going to try with the kernel 2.6.20-gentoo-r8 to see if that works, either that or use vanilla, which is on my laptop and works perfectly fine.

Is "Probe all LUNS" enabled in your kernel? => CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN=y

Right I tried the 2.6.20-gentoo-r8 and still not getting anything. I found that plug and play was added when I never use it so I recompiled that hoping it was the cause but no it wasn't. I've notice when ever I attach anything via usb I get uba1 or ube1 when I would normally would get sda or sde. I installed the same thing on my laptop but id does the normal sde so how to get my pc back to that as I get the feeling that could be the cause. I might just install the same kernel on here and use it's config file and change the setup for this machine, hmm.

EDIT: does it make a difference that my laptop uses vanilla and my pc uses gentoo

If you're seeing ubXY devices try to disable the "Low Performance USB driver" (option CONFIG_BLK_DEV_UB)

I did what you said and that got it back to the way things normally worked, sde instead of ube. Now it sees my card reader I stick a card in, dmesg it nothing comes up. I went back to the wiki but I've ticked all the boxes and made it, so is there boxes ticked that may stop it from working?

I think I am going to have to rebuild it as I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. It now says the compiler is not working, great.

Update on things. I have used my laptops kernel and .config file and added all the hardware needed (not yet removed) and it reads the card reader as long as I unplug it and replug it. usb-storage does a scan finds the card that I've stuck in and shows up on cat /proc/partitions. All i need to do is somehow make it so that I stick a card in and it realises this.

I am now using 2.6.22-rc6 (same as my laptop, haven't updated it in a while) vanilla-sources.
