(solved) Customising Gnome

  • Quote

Post by jabol » Mon Jul 02, 2007 7:00 pm

So, I want to make a great deal of customization in Gnome.
I've just recently set up 10 workspaces and I came to a conclusion I can use one per application. I never run more that 10 of them. Now, I'd like some applications to be started automatically *on a specific workspace* *in a specific mode* (like full screen). I got this idea from DWN actually, although I don't know whether you do it automatically there.
So, what do you reckon, is my case helpless, or maybe not? Messing up in system files won't hurt me. I don't need a full explanation, just give me a hint and I'd do further on myself. I just can't see any starting point.

TIA, Adam W.

Wow, it certainly looks great so far. And it's LISP-like!!! (well, some of you surely swear at this, but like it). Thanks once more, I'd post my results.

Well, it's certainly what I needed! For anyone who would use some help identifying windows, I created this script. It prints properties of all windows opened in some special workspace, so just run devilspie in console and the output would give you all information needed. Btw, try workspace 0!

Code: Select all

(if
  (= (window_workspace) 1)
    (begin
      (print "window_role: ")
      (println (window_role))
      (print "window_class: ")
      (println (window_class))
      (print "window_name: ")
      (println (window_name))
      (print "application_name: ")
      (println (application_name))))
For me it was quite helpfull...
