Pulseaudio errors publishing zeroconf service through avahi

I'm using pulseaudio-0.9.6 and avahi-0.6.18. When I start pulseaudio (a network audio server) on my ~x86 laptop, everything is fine and it publishes a set of audio sinks, sources and a monitor interface.

When I start pulseaudio on my ~amd64 desktop (same versions of avahi/PA), I get the following error:

Code: Select all

D: module-zeroconf-publish.c: Publishing services in Zeroconf
E: module-zeroconf-publish.c: avahi_entry_group_add_service_strlst(): Invalid service name
I've tried running pulseaudio in gdb, but that doesn't tell me anything useful about what the actual service name is. The pulseaudio bug trac page for Bug #39 shows the same issue, which was apparently resolved by switching to newer versions of dbus and avahi. I'm at the latest version and am stumped.

The pulseaudio IRC channel is totally unresponsive (perhaps everyone is a bot in there?) and I haven't signed up for the mailinglist yet. If there is no resolution to be found here, I'll join the list.

After switching to the onboard VIA audio chipset, the problem is gone. The original soundcard was a SB Live! Value, using the emu10k1 driver. Now using the snd-via82xx driver, everything is fine. WEIRD!
