electricsheep and xscreensaver strange behavior

Electricsheep will run from the command line with

Code: Select all

electricsheep --mplayer 1 --zoom 1
If I use --root 1 nothing happens at all.

The problem is when xscreensaver trys to run electricsheep using the same command that works from command line, all I get is a black screen. I know that there is an mplayer window opening however, because when I exit the preview I can see a flash of a sheep just for a splitsecond. It appears as though running from xscreensaver creates a black layer over the electricsheep window. Choosing any other screensaver works just fine.

I also cannot run electricsheep without "--mplayer 1" unless mplayer is already running in the background, as several other users have reported.

With mplayer running in the background, xscreensaver can initiate electricsheep without "--mplayer 1" and I do see sheep. However, without "--mplayer 1" and without "--root 1", "--zoom 1" does not want to function, so the sheep I see only take up a quarter of the screen.

Code: Select all

warning: cannot zoom without mplayer or rootwin.

Maybe xfce is running on the root window for some reason? I think if --root 1 were working it would work with xscreensaver. Instead if seems it is opening in a normal window and then xscreensaver is putting a virtual root window above it. Somehow I need to get it to display in this virtual root window which I figure --root 1 should do, but for some reason does not.
