I noticed when I first did a fresh install of gentoo with the gnome 2.16 desktop, I had some new handy features pop up. Namely: Hibernate and suspend from the gui, a monitor that dims with a time interval (with a nice dimming animation to boot), auto hibernate when the power gets to a critical level, and monitor dimming when switching to battery mode. What irks me though is within a week or two, half of the features stopped working for no reason.
The monitor no longer dims when the system becomes idle. But it does when I unplug the AC.
The hibernate when power is critical feature no longer works. (I found out the hard way.) I can still hibernate from the GUI though.
Also, X no longer dpmses the screen off. It only blanks it which bugs the heck out of me. The only way I have managed to get it working again is with xset. But it feels like a hack I should have never had to do.
Anyone have any ideas?
