Gentlemen and gentlewomen,
I've been struggling with Xorg quite a while now to get my flatpanel TV working on the VGA-out of a Toshiba laptop with a broken -and thus removed- internal panel. The laptop has an Intel 955 integrated chipset which uses the i810 driver.
I've only been able to get the external panel to display a clone of the max resolution of the internal panel: 1024x768, which is obviously not enough...
How can I configure Xorg to disable the internal panel and use the external as default monitor at 1360x768?

You'll need to do 2 things in order to do this...in the Monitor section of your xorg.conf, you'll need to add the custom resolution you want. the 2nd thing is, go into your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file and find out what your external monitor is (if it's a LCD, it would probably be DFP-1, if it's a CRT, it would probably be CRT-0) for this we're going to use CRT-0. add this line to your Device section (for your display adapter):
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "CRT-0"
