radeon x1300 - mplayer doesn't work

  • Quote

Post by X_Ch4n » Fri Mar 23, 2007 4:01 pm

Hi all
i recently installed an ati radeon x1300 video card into my box.
I installed the Ati official fglrx driver, following instructions on ati web site.
Now, everyting seems work good except for mplayer. When i start mplayer in full screen mode the video image remain of the same measure of the original and both right and left sides figures out a black vertical stripes like black stripes on up and bottom side of the screen.
I recompiled mplayer and all the system but this problem still remain.
What can i do to solve this problem?

what output methods are you using in mplayer -- make sure they are supported under the frglx driver -- *wink* - this sounds rather like you are using xv output in mplayer and only have the opengl overlay active in xorg.conf.

This is of course a guess - -but might be sufficient to point you in correct direction.
I do the computer thing. Lots.

Okay, the reason you have this is because you are no longer using XV as your video output, but you are using x11

try:

Code: Select all

mplayer -vo sdl 'file'
then you can watch fullscreen and just press C untill you get a good FPS (C changes resolution in fullscreen)

If you would look at your fglrxinfo, i suspect that it's not loading the ATi drivers correctly, i too have this problem and i am working on it ;)
i went from no GLX to glx from mesa, next step is direct rendering ;)
if you would do a world update, it would install a dependency for the ati-drivers which would give you the OpenGL support (it did for me)
dont forget to revdep-rebuild ;)

I use `-vo gl2' with the fglrx drivers; it gives me good results (including scaling).

hi
i tried what you have told me:
try:
Codice:
mplayer -vo sdl 'file'

then you can watch fullscreen and just press C untill you get a good FPS (C changes resolution in fullscreen)
the full screen mode works but a very bad quality (i pressed C too).
I use `-vo gl2' with the fglrx drivers;
if i use gl2 output driver, full screen mode works, good quality image but it goes very slowly while the audio goes normally.

Please execute `glxinfo | grep dir'.

I expect that it will say:

Code: Select all

direct rendering: No
I think that you are getting slow video because you do not have a working DRI setup.

If the above command tells you that you do not have direct rendering, search the forums for threads where people are trying to get DRI on and ATI card using the fglrx driver.

If you can get DRI working then both 'gl' and 'gl2' output drivers should give you smooth and synchronised playback.
