I recall I had this problem with my laptop, but then the menu magically appeared at some point. I'm in the games group, I can launch the games themselves fine, and the relevant .desktop files are present in /usr/share/applications.

Code: Select all

deathcarrot@jkbox ~ $ groups
wheel audio games users portage deathcarrot

Code: Select all

deathcarrot@jkbox ~ $ emerge xfce4

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies ..... ........ done!
[ebuild R ] xfce-base/xfce4-4.4.0 USE="alsa oss -cups -minimal" 0 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Code: Select all

deathcarrot@jkbox ~ $ emerge --info

I've found that sometimes I have to logout then back in for some items to appear in the menu. Have you tried that?

Put copies of the .desktop files into ~/.local/share/applications, see if that does anything.

There may be a syntax error in the .desktop file. Is the problem with one game, or all games? And, did you make the .desktop file yourself?

You could edit an existing .desktop file that you know works.

All of the games (kobodl, wormux, xmoto and quake3 with a few mods). The .desktop files were installed by the ebuilds, changing the category from Game to something else doesn't make them show up, and changing the permissions on the executable doesn't seem to help either :?
