- I just instaled correctly XGL and Beryl on my gentoo 2006.1 and all the xgl/beryl stuff work's just fine (the newest ATI drivers 8.33.6, Xorg 7.1), the problem is when i want to play any movie in Mplayer the X server crashes seding me back to the console.

- Also when i want to play UT2004-Demo X server do not crush, but the game won't run...

what can be wrong??

Hi, I have a X700 card. I use startx, without XGL to play e.g. tremulous (see portage), watch films in mplayer, vlc...

When I want to work I use startxgl with beryl. I need this beryl stuff, because I do my work faster with it. It seems that XGL disalbes dri. I am not able to play any games with the same fps like in startx.

So use two scripts for X server and start them manually in the console. Therefore you will have to disable xdm (rc-update del xdm).

I remember I had mplayer+beryl crashes with some of the video ouput drivers.
try to use different vo than you are already using.
xv works fine for me (except that rarely mplayer starts to crash after some event. it is hard to say what triggers these crashes, restarting beryl solves the issue).
