Xorg lockups when shutting down og returning to console

Hi,

I'm using the ATI-drivers for my AMD64 system. The acceleration works fine on my computer, but when using accelerated drivers, the system locks up when shutting down the computer or returning to the console.
Is there a solution for this problem? - it's anoying!

There exists no solution for the second problem you mentioned (switch from console back to X). According to ati it should work but that's (obviously) not the case... I don't have a solution for this problem neither, i just don't use the console...

On the other hand i don't experience the other bug you mentioned. Shutting down works flawlessly in my case

Well, I think you misunderstood me. I cannot switch from X to the console, and therefore - I can't shut down!

Oh LOL well i really misunderstood you... This is the first time i've heard of this problem... Maybe you can check out the rage3d-board... they have a forum which is dedicated to ati-linux bugs

With ati-drivers-8.32 I also experienced lookups when switching to console or back to X, ati-drivers-8.31 and 8.33 worked instead. So maybe if you experiment a bit you will find a version that will work for you. Or maybe your problem is even related to this?

all problems with ati-drivers and open bugs are listed here:

Some of bugs are more then 1 year old so most probably ATI is not going to fix it.
I have switched to opensource xf86-video-radeon and quite happy about it.
The only two problems left: there are no official tv-out support (you can find a patch in bugs.gentoo.org) and low FPS (2900fps for me).
