HIGHMEM for 1GB RAM?

Hi all,

Do you need to enable HIGHMEM support in the kernel to use the full 1GB of installed RAM?

I have this at the top of my dmesg

Code: Select all

Warning only 896MB will be used.
Use a HIGHMEM enabled kernel.
896MB LOWMEM available.

I have tried enabling HIGHMEM (4GB) support in the kernel and all seems well, but x won't start at all, and seems to turn off the monitor.

Any ideas?

Same thing here useing nvidia kernel seems to have problems when trying to load.
you use nvidia as well?

i see 1gb ram now but the sysytem seems unstable

I had this problem before also. If modprobe nvidia gives you dependency errors then check this report.
