mm-sources and rtl8187

Hi all,

I upgraded my system since my last visits to this forum and I had a couple of problems with it;

- Asus P5W DH Deluxe
- e6600 core2duo at 3.2 ghz
- 1 gb. Corsair pc5400
- 2 S-ATA Samsung spinpoints

No livecd of Gentoo, nor Ubuntu or Fedora booted, they all froze immediately after initiating the boot-sequence (couldn't even read an error message), leaving me with a black screen. Quite strange, would've thought Linux would at least boot, since it boots on almost anything. :) It seemed to be a kernel problem, since I tried the latest mm-sources which worked.

However, some portage problems are popping up. The RTL8187 module for instance completely fails to compile, as for a couple of packages emerged when emerging gnome. Many of the errors seem to have something to do with unidentified symbols etc... suggesting I need to upgrade some include/header-files? I did an emerge -uvD world, but still no effect. I just wanted to ask first if anyone recognizes these problems, than I could give you details.. thanks! Could just be the mm-sources giving some troubles.

Your motherboard requires a very recent kernel to work properly, but many of the packages that compile against kernel sources have not been updated to work with the latest kernels, yet.

Really... mmm, so I have to wait a bit for that. Seems strange though, are the differences for my board so great that Linux won't even boot?

If you are looking for a LiveCD that works on your motherboard, then look here :
Gentoo 2006.1 livecd with JMicron-Support (JMB363/361/36x)
