How do I recompile? [SOLVED]

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

How do I recompile? [SOLVED]

I just can't seem to figure this one out. I am installing Gentoo and I installed xorg-x11. However, I had a typo in my make.conf

INPUT_DEVICES="kyeboard mouse"

So, as you can see when I go to start X there it can't find the keyboard driver (I'm assuming). So, I corrected make.conf and did an emerge -av xorg-x11. This takes only a few seconds and it looks like it just copies files it already compiled. I tried to unmerge and emerge again but that didn't work either. Thanks for any help.

I think xorg-x11 is just a meta package, you probably need to rebuild the xorg-server package.

emerge --newuse will pick that up like a use flag change - so emerge --newuse -uDav world should pick up whatever needs to be rebuilt.

Try

Code: Select all

~ # emerge -uDNav xorg-x11
to make portage apply your changes also for dependencies.

It looks like emerge -uDNav xorg-server is what I need. It's rebuilding right now and I saw the correct KEYBOARD spelling. It looks like I could have done an emerge -av xorg-server to just build the server. But I did the entire tree just to make sure. Thanks for the help.
