Tv card and Lirc stop working after kernel 2.6.18.-r3

Post by Unclethommy » Sat Dec 02, 2006 3:57 pm

Hi I was wondering if someonecould help me, I recently installed kernel 2.6.18-r3 on top of 2.6.17-r4. I had to enable all the options again and I may have left something out but my system now has two problems:

lirc_gpio can no longer be found and due to this ( i presume) i cant get lirc to connection properly (i get connection refused which was what happeend before I previosuly loaded lirc_gpio)

also my tvcard (winfast 2000XP with a Bt848 chip) has stopped working correctly in tvtime too.

I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and /or rectified it? I presume as the IR cable is connected through my tv card, the driver problem with the tv card is also effecting the lirc_gpio somehow?

this is my lsmod at the moment as I'm trying to compile as many modules as i think is relevant to get it started at again.

I have a udev rule which previous mapped the tvcard to /dev/mytv which was working fine before the kernel change. I tried to comment it out to see if it made a difference and the card still didnt work :( I dont know if thats any help.
Any help would be very welcome.

Just curious what the problem you were having with your bt848 card was. I've had a huge number of problems recently and just got X working to find that I cannot change channels on my card. Tvtime and mplayer show that the channel is changing but I'm always stuck on the same channel.

The card was working fine before the rebuild to a newer kernel, now it opens with the same settings in tvtime but i only get a blue screen :( it worked perfectly in the older kernel :(

My problem was exactly the same... and I just solved it! The bttv driver was loading correctly but not pulling in the tuner module. Try loading the 'tuner' module and see if that fixes the problem for you.

chrisashton84, you're a genius :) tvcard is up and running :) thank you :) now i need to figure out why lirc isnt working but watching tv helps :) Does your lirc work (if you have it)? and what module are you using to make it work? as with the tccard it was working fine before the kernel upgrade.

BTW how did you know it was the tuner module, was it a hunch? or did you read it somewhere?

Sorry, no lirc here.

When I was looking into this I checked my dmesg. It's been a long time since I've had to work with the tv drivers, but I remembered there being more then just bttv lines in dmesg around where the modules were loaded. lsmod confirmed that it was the tuner module which was missing. Oddly enough, I'd had both bttv and tuner in my /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 file but had them commented out. I suppose bttv started detecting my card correctly at some point and I didn't need to specify parameters anymore, so I had disabled them. Make sure you have both in there so that it autoloads from now on.

I can't load the "tuner" module... modprobe tuner? there is none found... what do I do? I still get erro r inserting lirc_gpio invalid request code. I know it's something wrong with the placement of headers in the lirc_gpio, im using the newest version of lirc_gpio and lirc from cvs but still dosen't work.. I guess there is a problem on my system outside of this?

The tuner module should be from the kernel... do you have everything enabled in there that you need?
