Not sure where to put Aleph One game data

  • Quote

Post by Toonytony » Mon Dec 04, 2006 6:25 am

I have been playing Aleph One on my Mac lately, so I decided to install it for Linux as well.

The problem is this: I don't know where to put the data files (ex Sounds, Map, Shapes, etc...)

I installed it through portage, and the actual game binary is installed in /usr/games/bin. All I need to know is where to put the files.

I had thought there was a data package, but I was wrong.

Game data is usually stored in /usr/share/games.

if I were you, I'd emerge gentookit and do "equery f <the name of the aleph one package>" to see where it stored the files.

Oh yeah, what's aleph one?

The Marathon engine... essentially what Halo was before it became Halo.

Try installing alephone-infinity, I believe it installs the data files for you. I know I did not have to install them manually.

It's an engine, but does it have games made for it yet? I'd like to play a good FPS on my computer. I haven't gotten saurbaruten or Enemy Territory working yet.

hmm... I installed alephone-infinity, but when I try to open it from the games menu, it doesn't do anything.

Yeah. They've got the Marathon Trilogy, then you can get a ton of mods for it at http://fileball.net/marathon/
