XDMCP setup

i tried. i really did. i followed the XDMCP HOWTO, and i still can get it to work.

i am running XFree86 4.2 on my windows laptop and try to use it as an X-Teminal. but i never get the login.
this is what i run on the windows box:

Xwin.exe -query 192.168.1.2

and this is what i have changed on my linux box:

in /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess
took off the comment on the line:

Code: Select all

*                                       #any host can get a login window

in /etc/X11/xdm-config
commented the line

Code: Select all

!DisplayManager.requestPort:    0

in /etc/X11/fs/config
commented the line

Code: Select all

#no-listen  =  tcp

then restarted xdm and xwindows.

what else i'm i suppose to do, or what am i doing wrong?

Are you using xdm?

yup. i even changed my xdm in /etc/init.d to always use xdm,so i do not accidently start kdm or gdm.

I actually experience the same issue.

neoTheCat: Your configuration looks fine.

So when I enable XDMCP in XDM, I can see with netstat that xdmcp is listening. But can not connect the xdm host. Have tried Xnest, X and an Envizex 2 X-terminal.
No error messages are displayed in the logs.
Perhaps it's time to visit http://bugs.gentoo.org/ and submit a bug report.
