Frequent system crashes/freezing

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

delete your firefox user preferences (rm -rf ~/.mozilla/firefox ) and retry.
(without adding themes or plugins, expecially non-offcial ones)
No, it crashed even without using Firefox. I deleted the profile and removed all
plugins and it still crashed. It crashed with "nv" driver or with "nvidia" driver.

I saw crashes without using any browser at all.
Matteo Azzali wrote:(P.S.: after installing the new browser make sure revdep-rebuild has 0 output,
I do this all the time, this is a normal comman which I use after each emerge, also etc-update

Maybe I will re-install x86, not ~x86, Gentoo again and see if it crashes as well.

Try to open the case and check for dirt, dust and removed stickers that may alter your system,
I doubt that's the nvidia-driver, while a "free" sticker can cause big issues.

Are crashes random, not appearing for a particular app, right?
Then remove all the daemons ,drivers, modules to a minimal config (keep logging, network and what's strictly needed
to run and so). Run it for a some hours without doin nothing. Then some hours trying the various apps you're used to.
If the issue stops, readd drivers/daemons one by one.
Every day a new distro comes to birth. Every day a distro "eats" another.
If you're born distro, no matter what, start to run.

I'm having THE EXACTLY same issue here.

PC freezes at no apparent reason. Using KDE is worse, firefox and KDE are related to the issue,
because 90% it does freeze is when I'm using something that belongs to KDE or Firefox.

I have 2 video cards, one inboard ATI X200 and one PCI-E Nvidea 6200. The freezing happens
on both cards.

I'm also using ~x86 unstable dumb flag (miss that on the install :/ ) I'm doing a emerge -e world now
to see if helps.

I had the same problems running ARCH linux with 2.6.19 kernel, ether kernel26 auto gen, or one
custom compiled.

I'm on flux now.. even tho the freezes, is not that regular, still happens

Here comes the funny part,it ONLY happens on X.

If is possible, please spiralvoice, can you post a complete list of your installed packages as well with config files (xorg, make, etc) so I can try to pinpoint the problem.

Well, any other ideas are appreciated.
