well, choose open and choose your application. mplayer is a good guess.

http://jamespo.org.uk/blog/archives/000977.html

since most of the radio stations I looked at by following your link use Windows Media Player (asx format) I googled "linux asx" and came up with this.

Havent tested it yet (all the radio stations I listen to have multiple formats for streaming) but it shoudl work. If not try ffmpg or any other linux programs that support asx format.

What are your firewall settings? Most of the problems I have with streaming internet radio are due to their use of non-standard ports.

You can use netstat to see what ports a radio station wants (i.e., which have un-ACK'd SYNs out). For instance:

Code: Select all

# netstat -natu
tcp 0 1 192.168.0.100:47326 213.194.133.51:8000 SYN_SENT
It's also possible that the radio station is down. The first two links I clicked on while testing that site did not work.

HTH,
m

is mplayer (on the commandline) able to play the sound via the URL you give him?
if so:
did you emerge mplayerplug-in (this is for firefox).

OTOH: are none of them:
http://www.live-radio.net
working? or just a few ones? i noticed, this site is just a collection of plenty radio stations with different sound formats.

BTW: are you @ X86 or AMD64 ?
and what GUI? if KDE, i would recommend amarok! you are able to listen to most of your favourite statins via this one.

Code: Select all

emerge -av mplayerplug-in
[ebuild R ] net-www/mplayerplug-in-3.31-r1 USE="gtk quicktime -divx -gmedia -realmedia -wmp" 0 kB

The "mp3" works bot the "wmp" dosn't work.
Do i need to use the flags "realmedia & wmp"?

yes sure!
put that to your USEflags, and re-emerge that stuff.
emerge -eDv --newuse world
you might want to use that in your other applications as well, i guess..

I remerged it.
Is it supposed to load on the browser or open the gmplayer?

otherwise your applications will *not* benefit from your new codecs.
i assume you have win32codecs installed and you are on x86?
you did not answer if you are on x86 or on amd64.
wolf_99 wrote: Is it supposed to load on the browser or open the gmplayer?
AFAIK you are able to configure this.
there is /etc/mplayer.conf
/etc/mplayerplug-in.conf

i myself do not use those, i am using konqueror as my mainbrowser.
OTOH, why asking? is it playing at all?

//edit: not gmplayer! this is the standalone GUI version of mplayer. call "mplayer", not "gmplayer".
if you call mplayer using gmplayer, it will not work *inside* the browser window.

Yes, i have win32codecs installed.

And
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ (Family: 6, Model: 6, Stepping: 2)
MMX2 supported but disabled
SSE supported but disabled
3DNowExt supported but disabled
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 0 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX 3DNow SSE2
//edit: not gmplayer! this is the standalone GUI version of mplayer. call "mplayer", not "gmplayer".
if you call mplayer using gmplayer, it will not work *inside* the browser window.
I don't want it *inside* the browser window. I want it as like i hear a song, standalone.

I use vlc to listen and record. The vlc website gives you all the use flags to employ. VLC does not play realaudio files, you will have to use mplayer or realplayer for those. Use the command line for mplayer and just enter the address (such as http://xxxxxx).

Code: Select all

noembed=1
might be a good candidate ;)

no, there should be no need to re-emerge. hmm..

is mplayerplug-in actually used at all? or is something else calling mplayer?
if you type "about:plugins" in the ffox browser, do you see the mplayerplug-in enabled for the filetypes you play?

or maybe apart from /etc you have mplayer configurations in your $home directory? AFAIK those would have priority against that one in /etc.

and *what* does not work? the files are playing fine now, but are still embedded in the browser window - or do they not play at all?

well, i dont know then.
hmm.. could you give me an example URL to the playfile so that i could check myself here?

OTOH, you wouldnt need the browser @all, while i think about it? just a shortcut at your desktop would do, perhaps?

oh, btw.. what happens if you RightClick the link in question? are you able to choose "open with mplayer"?

uhm, you can not parse a phpfile to mplayer, thats why it segfaults. you need the streamfile address.

if i visit http://www.live-radio.net/redirfeed.php3?Id=6926172 i just get a blank page.
