Keyboard in Gnome

  • Quote

Post by morda » Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:13 pm

Hi,
after some recent updates my keyboard in Gnome went crazy. All of the shortcuts doesn't work (ie. Alt+F4, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V). When I turn repeating of keys, pressing and holding them down outputs pressed key only twice...
Have you got any ideas what went wrong and how to fix it :?:

Did those recent updates include the changeover from monolithic to modular X? If so, check the section about XKB configuration near the end of the Migrating to Modular X Howto. Stale Xkb configs can apparently cause quite a variety of weird behaviors.

I've been using modular Xorg for some time now without any problems. I did some tests today and actually my keyboard works fine (special characters, layout). Things that are messed up are Gnome keyboard shortcuts. When I go to Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts there's nothing in there. Not even a single shortcut. The same for Gnome Terminal. Nothing is predefined. Any idea how can I restore them?

Same thing here!
Somehow I alt+tab works when I use metacity and does not work with emerald & beryl. In both cases though Alt+Shift for changing keyboard layout does not work. In general wherever Alt is involved, there is trouble :(
