Looks like 0.9.3 is out with some nice improvements and a bug fix for that pesky focus bug (that locked my machine on more than 1 occasion!) :)

Nice one,

shame this feature keeps getting knocked down the roadmap until it eventually drops off the end.
Other Minor Features:
- Add some sort of program launch function (Simon)

You should be able to just do the following, to get an instant ebuild for 0.9.3:

Code: Select all

su
(enter password)
cd /usr/portage/x11-wm/fluxbox
cp fluxbox-0.9.0.ebuild fluxbox-0.9.3.ebuild
ebuild ./fluxbox-0.9.3.ebuild digest
emerge -u fluxbox

I don't think that will work, it did not work for 0.9.2. There is a fluxbox-cvs build hanging around on these forums wich I've been using though.

<edit>I put the ebuild up here http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=363206#363206</edit>

Hrm, it doesn't? I know it died because of an apparent typo in one of the Makefiles (the dependencies were listed as 'f fluxbox-something or another', and it looked like the f was a typo), but after fixing that it compiled...maybe I just got lucky =P The CVS ebuild is a good thing to have too though ^_^

Well the ebuild is in portage now and I just updated to 0.9.3

I really wish I could put my menu more transparent but for some reason I cant get it even if I change the AlphaMenu ... I looked at the init file just in case and the number i set should at least make a difference and it dont.

Also MaximizeOverSlit doesn't work .... It always MaximizeOverSlit and I do not want that. Anyways AA works this time yeah :)

Got those some error with Fbkrun color something ... anyways nice to see the new version ... looking forward.[/quote]

transparency in menus is still terrible...it doesn't even match what's behind the menu. other than that, it looks good!

0.1.14-r1 is the latest stable version, whereas 0.9.3 is the latest development version. If you want to install 0.9.3 you can do

Code: Select all

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p fluxbox
to see what portage would install together with the development version of fluxbox. If it is nothing invasive, just remove the "-p" and emerge away. Just remember that 0.9.3 is a development version, which includes major new features, something that almost always means major new bugs... ;)

Hey darkness,
The menu transparency should be working, it is for me. What program are you using to set the background?

esetroot to set background
also, I've noticed that the toolbar autohide is screwed up and doesn't work if something is over it

aterm works for me - menu transparency as well (i use wmsetbg for my wallpapers).
But it seems that i can't get flux to not maximize over the slit as well.

But I think the new tabs are great!

known bugs (from cvs docs)

Code: Select all

Known bugs and missing features that will be fixed in future version:

bugs:

* Window handle is invisible sometimes.
* Disabling full-maximize doesn't work.
* Some menus don't close when you click on items.
* Transparancy for the slit does not always work right.
* After startup the font of the toolbar is to big; reload config works around this.
* Transient windows seem to not have a X border - is this right?
* saving of number of workspaces on restart

fixed bugs (or not-our-fault bugs):
* Some people get weird transparency behaviour.
-> this appears to be a problem with nvidia drivers, try nv instead

Hmm yea I'm using Esetroot too, I guess there is some other problem then. Possibly the nvidia thing listed above (I'm currently using the 4363-r2 driver with no probs).

Maybe it is not related at all but are you using Side Band Adressing and Fast Write?
I am using both of those with 4362-r2 and I have that problem with transparency.

Nope I'm not using them.

Code: Select all

 cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Enabled
Driver: AGPGART
AGP Rate: 4x
Fast Writes: Disabled
SBA: Disabled

I figured where the problem is with transparency. You have to disable the "RenderAccel" option in your XF86Config file.
Enjoy :).
