frequency scaling problem

I'm following the power management guide from docs.gentoo.org and when i try to run cpufreq-info i get the following error, but i followed the guide exactly and built the driver into the kernel so i don't know what the problem is.

if anyone can help me with this problem I'd appreciate it! My CPU is an Intel Centrino btw if that helps and i'm running the gentoo-sources 2.6.17-r8 release kernel.
