Bluetooth connection problems (hcitool cc error) [solved]

Im trying to get the script from http://gentoo-wiki.com/TIP_Bluetooth_Proximity_Monitor to work.

i can scan for my device with hcitool wo any problems and so on. but when i trye to run the script al i get is:

"can't create connection: Operation not permitted"

any sugestions on how i can get past this problem is much apriciated

can you ran the script as root?

"hcitool scan" works ok but when i trye to "hcitool cc {adress}" it gives the error msg Can't create connection: Operation not permitted

according to the Bluetooth installation guide, you have to be root so that's normal. Just keep going with the KDE/Gnome installation

Well, that's only for the detection... then the tools run as your local user, so don't panic too much. The thing is that you are really configuring a network here. And networks should only be configured by root. At least it's somehow consistent with the way network configuration runs on linux.
