Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

problems compiling swt - fails on AWT

I'm having trouble getting swt to compile (for azureus)...

When I try to compile it, I always get a failure during the AWT library:

Code: Select all

>>> Compiling source in /var/tmp/portage/swt-3.2_rc2/work ...
 * Building AWT library
cc -O -Wall -DSWT_VERSION=3231  -DLINUX -DGTK -I/opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.12/include -I/opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.12/include/linux -fPIC -DSWT_PTR_SIZE_64   -c -o swt_awt.o swt_awt.c
cc -L/opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.12/jre/lib/amd64 -ljawt -shared -s -o libswt-awt-gtk-3231.so swt_awt.o
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.6/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -ljawt
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [libswt-awt-gtk-3231.so] Error 1

Any ideas? System is emachines m6805 AMD athlon 64 XP 3000+, java installed is:

Code: Select all

*  dev-java/sun-jdk
      Latest version installed: 1.4.2.12

*  dev-java/sun-jre-bin
      Latest version installed: 1.5.0.06
thx!

I've installed blackdown-jdk-1.4 and sun-jdk-1.5.0.7 then made as it written in http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/java/java-upgrade.xml . Everything now normal.

Ok, I followed the instructions on that page, and now java-check-environment reports that my environment is sane:

Code: Select all

# /usr/bin/java-check-environment
 * === Java Environment Checker ===
 * The purpose of this script is to check the sanity of your Java Environment.
 * We have significantly changed and improved the way Java is handled in many respects.
 * Please refer to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/java/java-upgrade.xml for details

 * Checking vm_environment_files ...                                      [ ok ]
* Checking user_settings ...
 * Running as root. Don't need to check user settings. [ ok ]
* Checking generation_1_system_vm ...                                    [ ok ]
* Java environment is sane. Congratulations!
But I still get the AWT error when trying to compile swt :(

I don't have the blackdown-jdk installed though... I was under the impression that I should pick either blackdown-jdk or sun-jdk, and since Azureus likes the sun one better, I've always used that. Do I need to install the blackdown-jdk as well, and if I do... will it cause conflicts w/the sun-jdk?

thx!

I have this same problem... I'm also using the sun-jdk and would like to continue if it were possible.

Any guidance on this?

I get the same error compiling swt-3.2-r1. I haven't seen any resolution here or in bugzilla.
