live cd on ibook

Post by paradesign » Thu Jun 05, 2003 5:06 pm

ive managed to get the live cd going on a 'colorful' ibook. i can get x set up, and running startx gives me... TWM. how do i get this to load KDE (the iso i downloaded)? im not very familiar with text editers other than Pico, so if i have to edit anything, im a noob. and will i have to re-edit every time i boot?

i can get kde to load in twm though, using twm as its window manager, not a good situation.

and startkde tells me x isnt running.

anyhelp would be appreciated, im getting it working on the ibook before i test it in teh comp lab at school.

Well assuming you get XFree configured and it works, looks right, go into /etc/rc.conf and edit the lines where you see:

DISPLAY MANGER=kdm
...

...

XSESSION=KDE-3.1.2

Save and use "startx"

Use nano instead.

Just type nano -w /etc/rc.conf and use the keys as you would in text edit.
