Stream jpg images

I have a hauppauge media mvp running IPTV and can successfully transcode and stream various video formats to it. I'd like to stream jpg as a slideshow directly from files without converting the them to a video file beforehand. vlc doesn't seem to support doing this. Can anyone suggest another way?

i would check into mplayer...it is incredibly configurable. I know that it is possible using mplayer to go from video to a series of jpegs...don't know it it supports going back the other way. Perhaps something to check into.

Will I be able to create mpeg2 video and output as a udp stream from a single invocation of mencoder or do I need to pipe it to another tool to create the network stream?

You would probably need to use something else to stream it. I'd look at VLC.

I have used mencoder and it works great if you specify a slow framerate. The mpeg2 encoder doesn't support this, but this is not an issue now
The main problem seems that you can not pipe encoded video from mencoder to another process. AISI this is because of the demands of encoding (i.e writing to headers at the end of processing video).
I was hoping to stream jpg's direct from file without creating an intermediate video file. So I hope to try encoding to a raw video stream, using mencoder, then pipe this to vlc.
I'm unsure (if in fact possible) how I pipe output from mencoder and whether, say, vlc accepts it as input.
