Hi guys...

I'm completely Newb with Gentoo Linux. So i'm sorry for eventually repeating this question, but i did not find it yet..

I want to configure my Studio PCTV Rave TV-Card from Pinnacle. I have enabled TV in the kernel, but when i start XAWTV it does not find some files in /dev/4vl...
What shall I do ?

I am not sure what driver your TV card should be using, but my old card wants the bttv driver, so i run modprobe bttv, and it creates all the necessary devices under /dev/v4l/. Try it.

Check this forum thread for more info:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php? ... tudio+pctv

In your kernel config, make sure you have these (preferrably as modules):

Multimedia Devices-->Video For Linux-->BT848 Video For Linux

Character Devices-->I2C support-->I2C support
Character Devices-->I2C support-->I2C bit-banging interfaces
Character Devices-->I2C support-->I2C device interface
Character Devices-->I2C support-->I2C /proc interface

Now do the usual kernel mambo - make dep && make bzImage modules modules_install

...and hopefully, you have all you need upon a restart (dont forget to copy the bzImage to /boot, and change the grub/lilo config (if needed)).

If you managed to load the module, you can do dmesg | grep bttv to see what it had to say about your card.

Now, understand that it might still not work as well as you expected - the bttv module (or its brother, the tuner module) needs to know what kind of tuner you have on your card (there are some 40-ish different ones). If you're lucky, a simple modprobe bttv will autodetect your tuner module and other settings...but there is a chance you have to tell it to us a different one. Dont' be alarmed. Come back if you need more help (and dont forget to read that other forum thread, as i only skimmed it quickly)

Mmh.. okay.... i read in another forum about this Tool ftvco...
I know it already from Mandrake... where it worked greatly...
But under Gentoo running this script i get some problems:

sh ./find_tvcardoptions.sh

... *menu* ...

then:
root /bin/bash: /home/wherethetoolis/seek.sh: /bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission Denied

What shall i do, in order to properly run this script ?

no idea if this helps..............

but you might want to simply change the executable bit on that script you are tying to execute.....

chmod 755 find_tvcardoptions.sh

and try it again................

Nope... does not help... sorry

But after trying a lot.... i managed to get some picture within my xawtv ^^

We're coming closer =)

So.. now i got the problem not to hear any sound on my xawtv. Trying Zapping brings up the same problem.
In Xawtv there is no output telling about this problem... so what shall i do now ??

This could be because some of your channels are muted. What mixer are you using to control your volume? I am using aumix, but there are others. If you are using the ALSA sound system, i guess you should use alsamixer (i think that's the correct name) to try to turn on your Line (or Line1, or something else) channel, because this is the channel that you most likely are using if you have a short audio cable between TV-card and soundcard.

To hear sound you need to connect the internal audio out with the line in of your sondcard, or just plug your speakers directly into the external audio out.

The connections are plugged in, as the TV Card works fine with SuSE Linux....

I tried Aumix... and Kmix... from KDE... but in both the sound for Line in is enabled...

Could it really be this ?
