KDE problem

Post by indow20 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 12:40 pm

After reboot i get the error that it can't find the XDM window manager.
How do i fix this ?
Now i have to type startx in order to run KDE.
Another problem is that i only see the half of my taskbar, not quite sure how to change this without getting more errors.
I didn't run Xorg -configure or download nvidia glx / kernel since last X server stopped working.
(no screens error). + my mouse wasn't detected.
Does anyone know what to do ?

Thanks!

Check if you have in your /etc/rc.conf

Code: Select all

DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"
XSESSION="kde"

Code: Select all

/sbin/start-stop-daemon: stat /usr/bin/xdm: No such file or directory
*ERROR: could not start the Display Manager...
*xdm: no process killed
*starting local...

This is the exact error im getting.

If you have in /etc/rc.conf

Code: Select all

DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm"
during startup should be called kdm no xdm. Something like that

Code: Select all

Setting up kdm

Then try

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/xdm restart

Just check under /etc/init.d if you have xdm? Maybe you only have kdm???
