Problems with audacity

  • Quote

Post by gaffer » Mon Mar 13, 2006 12:17 am

I want to use audacity for recording sound from the microphone. I tried to install versions 1.2.X. None of the was emerging. They complained onto wxProtoFile function absense in vtable in wxGTK-2.4.2. I searched thru the internet and didn't find how to install audacity. However audacity-1.2.1 is marked as stable. Which is really weird because I installed wxGTK-2.4.2-r4 which is also stable. I installed it with USE="-debug -gtk2 -odbc +opengl -unicode +wxgtk1"

Since I couldn't install audacity-1.2.1, which is marked stabel, though, I decided to try to install audacity-1.3.0_beta. It emerged but doesn't work properly. After start it as aoss audacity,it outputs next lines:

Code: Select all

Pa_SetLatency: could not SNDCTL_DSP_SETFRAGMENT
Pa_SetLatency: numBuffers = 5, framesPerBuffer = 2048, powerOfTwo = 13
Pa_SetupDeviceFormat: could not SNDCTL_DSP_SETFMT
When I am trying to record suond from the mictrophone cursor blinks at the beginning af the line and doesn't go forward. Also when I push stop button, wudacity just hangs and stays in this state forever.

I guess that the problem is that it works through OSS and I have ALSA installed on my machine. However, aoss realplay and aoss firefox work fine. And I didn't have problem with microphone since I can use GNOME default recorder application.

I have even installed windows version (which is in fact works fine on windows machine) on the wine-0.9.8. It doesn't work.

So the question is does anybody use ANY version of audacity ? How did you install it on the your box ?

as far as wxProtoFile goes, the key thing is to re-emerge wxGTK-2.4, as it's been built against an older GTK+ version, and the GTK+ upgrade has broken wxGTK.
