ATI TV output

ok I know i'm totally noob, but I got dual monitors working... now I want to get the tv output working. I one RCA cable plugged into my VCR, and the other into the card in the composite out.

how / where do i go to enable this output??

and even better would be "can i make this a 3 monitor system?"???!??!?

that would be the ultimate for me, having three screens per desktop...

I know on windows you could have either one screen and the tv or both screens no tv, so that would be ok but i'd really prefer both screens and a tv output... maybe the tv out could just mirror what i have on say screen2???

I really don't know what to do... thanks for the help in advance!

if you've got ati-drivers, try this:

why can I do aticonfig as a regular user, but not as root????

i need to be able to run aticonfig as root so that way it can moify the xorg.conf file, but when i try to run aticonfig as root i get command not found...???

it updates your enviorment variables so that the aticonfig path gets in your path variable.

as i know aticonfig resides in /opt/ati/bin/aticonfig so this path would be added to your PATH variable.

Try it.

awesome did that and it let me do the stuff as root, but i still can't get the tv output to work...

i have one RCA cable hooked into my computer in the video output plug, but when i do aticonfig --force-monitor=crt1,tv it doesn't work... instead my crt1 gets a funky resolution while the tv still shows nothing...

somewhere i read that either the VGA or the TVout can be active at once. but i did not tried it.

edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and look for a line that looks like this:

try setting it to

Option "MonitorLayout" "NONE, AUTO"

That turns off the CRT and turns on the TV out.

If it does't work, try setting it back to

Option "MonitorLayout" "AUTO, AUTO"

hmm i didnt find that option. i did find the following thouh:

Now as far as vga and not tvout, well I know that in windows you could have VGA1 on and VGA2 on, then if you wanted TV you enabled it and it disabled VGA2...
so yea I dunno I'm OK with losing CRT2 when the TV is on, but I can't get the TV to display

This line seems to be wrong:

I hope that helps.

If not try to use the aticonfig tool to configure this. Normally this works great without fiddling around in your xorg.conf.
aticonfig --help gives you an overview about the options you can use.
