rdesktop 'disconnect: No valid license available.'

rdesktop 'disconnect: No valid license available.'

when I try to run rdesktop -f <IP> I get 'disconnect: No valid license available.' I know that it works becasue we can do it on other machines. Anyone have any idea on why this would be happening?

I *guess* your licensing method is "per machine" and you did not setup a license for your linux computer you're trying to connect from. If you change your licensing method to "per connection" it should work.

The only thing is is that I was able to connect just last week. Everything was working fine.

I have not changed any configurations on this end or on the box I am trying to get to.

This is a symptom of using the incorrect licensing method on the server. On the windows RDP client, there is a registry key to delete when you get this error.

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\MSlicensing]
possibly there's some licensing file/key in your home directory you can delete? alernatively, i've seen people report success using the option "--built-in-license" when starting rdesktop. I've not tried it, because so far, I've not had that problem.

I'm an idiot.

The person that setup the terminal licenses didn't purchase any, rather we were just going off of temporary ones. I uninstalled the terminal services and then reinstalled and now we have licenses for the next 120 days.

Thanks for you input though guys.

I have the same problem, i tried to delete the .rdesktop folder under the user's /home but it didn't work.
In this moment i don't know what i could try.

this is a workaround
i've just seen that if you know the hostname's owner of a valid MS license (CAL o temp license) you can use it this way:
