Maybe your CD drive's paths are messed up. I had something like this(I think) happen to me before. I just installed a DVD writer and changed around the ribbon cable plugs. When I rebooted, by CD drive had changed from /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 to /dev/hdc.

Try

Code: Select all

 (as root) dmesg
Then, look for your CD drive.

cdda://

If that is the location to your CD drive, is it the same in your fstab?

no, cdda:// is a kinda direct link to the hardware so an audio CD does not have to be mounted - since there is no point

You seem to be missing a cdda module/library. Can you run/read data cd's?

Did you try re-emerging gnome-vfs?

Well you see that is the thing. I can read Data CD's fine, in fact I have just ripped this CD to mp3
It has been a while since I have played a CD in Linux since I normally rip them to MP3 to put on my Creative:Zen (and thus need windows)
But just bought this CD and wanted to listen before re-boot intow windows.

ripping is fine

that whole libcdda.so is for GNOME-vfs but from what I have read GNOME-dev dropped gnome-specific/provided CDDA in favour of distro's providing their own

so somewhere along the line I lost my support

Hmmm. It appears I can't play audio CDs anymore, either, with GNOME 2.14.2 and totem (xine backend). I used to be able to, though.

Edit: doing the fix stated in the linked thread above worked.
