I had it too, but it was easily fixed with:

opengl-update nvidia

(This is deprecated though, so you should probably check the eselect command from the gentoolkit package)

Don't forget to restart X afterwards.

I fixed my fonts-too-small problem. It was really a case of DPI set incorrectly for my display. Once I got that fixed all my fonts got bigger, but the point is that the fonts in Google Earth are now readable.

Try the free r300 driver! Google Earth Linux is a bit slower than under Windows but it is not unusable.

Something was screwed up with DirectRendering, but now it works

But I can't solve the font problem, is there a way to increase the font just manually? Because I have set display size in xorg.conf.

I have a strange problem with Google Earth, not that big but I was curious if it's only me... So after startup only the upper part of the navigation windows has image (about 20%), and the status bar is right below this part that has the image. However, moving the cursor around in the lower part modifies the coordinates in the status bar. This can be quickly solved by turning on/off the sidebar or switching to fullscreen and back, but is still a little annoying.

Anyone else has this?

BTW, I have installed it from portage.

btw, has anyone tried replacing the libqt-mt.so.3 library file with a symlink to /usr/qt/3/lib/libqt-mt.so.3 ? or any of the other libraries that are already present on your system? if someone knows how to check whether it'll work ( e.g, how to find what compiler version was used to compile the googleearth version of the library ), please post it either here or in a new thread.

I was having the following problem when I first installed Google Earth with an ATI Radeon 9600 video card:

The problem for me was that DRI was failing to initialize when X started.

My Xorg.0.log file said this:

The one that I was missing was via-agp. ATI has a guide which finally got it working for me: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/linux_8.12.10.html under the heading "X Fails to Load on Systems with Linux Kernel Version 2.6.x"

After I got those modules loaded and restarted X, my fglrxinfo said this:

I've tried with both the ebuild and the .bin file, it starts fine, and connects fine. But as soon as it starts zooming in towards the surface of the earth then all the imagery in the middle of the screen just disappears. Around the edges then there's still images, but they're completely screwed up relative to the country borders overlaid on the globe. I have most of west mexco in the middle of the pacific...
Also, the text across the bottom of the viewport is messed up, some letters display and others don't.

System is amd64, mostly from the stable tree. Running X.org 7.0 with nVidia's drivers on a 256mb GeForce 6500
