FSC Amilo M3438G Notebook - Fan is always working

Hi,

I have a problem with the acpi fan of my notebook. The throttling of my Pentium M works fine with cpudyn. But even at 800 mhz the fan does not shut off. I disassambled the dsdt acpi file but I cannot find any fan information in it.

Can someone fix the file or give me another solution to deactivate the cpu fan at 800 mhz?

You can find the dsdt.dsl here:

Hi. Do yuo have complete ACPI support in your Kernel ? Did you add all i2c and hardware monitor as modules in your kernel ? Did you emerge lm_sensors ?

Yes, ACPI, i2c and hardware monitor support were built into the kernel. Sensor-detect of the lm_sensors package could not find any monitoring devices or fans, because only ACPI (and the nVidia driver) controls it. In Windows XP the fan slows down, when the nVidia graphics driver is running. I think ACPI reports the current temperature and the nVidia service slows it down. But in Linux this does not work. Maybe the ACPI table and the nVidia Linux driver do not contain code for the fan. :-/

In my experience, lm_sensors doesn't work if you build i2c and hardware monitor statically. I tried and lm_sensors doesn't find anything. I solved it building i2c and hardware monitors as modules, then reboot, then sensors-detect to configure lm_sensors, then rc-update add lm_sensors default. I'm not shure this will solve your fan problems, but I believe that fans are controlled via ACPI, so you eventually need control over it...
