Having issues with cups and my printer. I have latest version of glibc up, ghostscrip-esp. I have a Brother MFC420CN, and I have the PPD et al directly from them. Cups recognizes it and lets me install. I set the URI to socket://<ip address>:9100 (jetdirect port, which is open).

D [10/Jun/2006:02:24:25 +0000] [Job 9] /usr/bin/gs: relocation error: /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0: symbol errno, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
D [10/Jun/2006:02:24:25 +0000] [Job 9] *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0xb7e72128 ***
D [10/Jun/2006:02:24:25 +0000] [Job 9] /usr/local/Brother/lpd/filterMFC420CN: line 42: 7413 Done eval cat $INPUT_TEMP

I re-emerged glibc and ghostscript-esp, nothin'. This happens when I try to do a test page from the web interface for cups management.

Maybe some error to tell Brother about in their stuff, or anybody have any good ideas or experience here?

Thanks for reading.

It's different to use LPD connect on port 515 and RAW / Jetdirect connect on port 9100. I think (but I'm not shure) Cups is using the LPD protocol...

However, maybe they're something wrong in the Brother driver, an incompatibility between your glibc and the brother driver. Did you compile GLibc on your own, or are you still using the distro one ?

not sure, haven't had time to look it anymore this weekend...

But not, just distro... emerge glibc.

Hrm. I tried contacting them on their linux page but the aspx page died a horrible death when I tried to submit a question about this... hrm

I asked you about glibc because, as French, I had to compile glibc to get french language support. The procedure is explained in the Gentoo howtos, language support (not sure of that)
